What a beautiful day we had last Saturday! Almost couldn’t believe it was mid-March in New England… And I’m so glad that Lisa and Mike decided to see each other before the Ketubah signing and ceremony, so we could do photos in the light in front of the golf course. I’m also thankful Lisa’s dad had the emergency tissues nearby. What a sweet couple!
Ceremony and Reception: Spring Valley Country Club
I was so thrilled to be out shooting finally this weekend! My first wedding on Saturday (sneak peek soon!), and then Kerry and Scott’s engagement photos on Sunday morning. We unfortunately didn’t have the balmy weather of Saturday, and getting closer to the water in Newburyport it got even more chilly. Kerry and Scott were up for it, though, and we all happily explored Newburyport together. They brought their adorable daughter along for some shots too (seriously, she is soooo cute! she kept getting up to show me her ballet dance moves).
During the past six years I’ve lived and been photographing north of Boston, I’ve come across so many beautiful locations for portrait sessions. And many times when someone books me for an engagement or other lifestyle shoot, they’re at a loss as to where to go. I’m more than happy to suggest places, but I thought a little photo essay might help to make a decision.
If none of these places seem quite right to you, sometimes the best place to go is someplace you’re comfortable – if it’s an engagement session, how about the place where you got engaged? Or met? If you’re looking for family photos, I’m more than happy to come to your home (especially if you have a baby – I know it’s easier to keep them in a comfortable environment they’re used to) and set up a mini-studio. Or just walking around your local town or neighborhood is fun.
But these are some of my favorite places… Some of which I’ve never shot a portrait session at, but I’ve visited… Hey, even if you’re not interested in getting your photos taken, these are just great places to visit north of Boston, period. There are so many more I could list, but I don’t have photos yet. So, maybe there will be a part 2!

Maureen and Dan’s wedding was at a great location, which I’ve never shot at before – the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, Massachusetts. Just driving through town up to it, I knew it would be a fun place for a wedding. And I was right! Of course, Maureen and Dan and their wonderful family (loved Maureen’s brothers as the “bridesmen”) and friends brought the warmth and fun to make it a perfect day.
Ahh… just looking back over these photos makes me long for summer… What a great day/night Nikki and Nate had – a beautiful beach ceremony followed by a laid-back dinner and lots and lots of dancing. Some random beach-goers enjoyed the DJ’s music so much, they started their own little dance party right down on the beach!

Our friends Jose and Jyll have been planning their wedding for next February at the Spencer Country Inn, which Tom and I will be photographing… They wanted to get some engagement photos done, and check out what the light would be like at around the time of their wedding next year. We all had a very enjoyable lunch there, and then braved the cold for the photos… Thanks Jose and Jyll for a fun afternoon!
